In September 2009, Capcom began hinting at an update of Street Fighter IV. Leading up to its official announcement, teasers and leaked images pointed to a Super Street Fighter IV, featuring T. Hawk and Dee Jay, the two fighters from Super Street Fighter II who were not included in Street Fighter IV, and were long expected to be added to Street Fighter IV as downloadable content.
Every character are now able to select between two Ultra Combos. All 25 original characters are able to choose from three outfits: their default, their old DLC costumes, and a brand-new DLC outfit released later on. New characters have a default costume and one DLC outfit. 6 of the original 25 fighters (C. Viper, Cammy, Chun-Li, Guile, Ryu, and Seth) all have second rivals, in addition to their first rival. The player is able to select which rival they wish to face by whether or not they press all three kick buttons when the "Now! Fight your rival!" message appears. The other characters have only one rival. The new 10 characters also only have one rival.
Street Fighter IV Champion Edition is now available to download on Android. This has been a highly anticipated Android mobile release and one which has been available to pre-order since early in February. However, within the last twenty fours hours the game has exited its pre-order status and become freely available to download from the Google Play Store.
The game itself is free to download although the initial access is limited to a demo version of the game as it does require a $4.99 in-app purchase (IAP) to unlock the full version. This is a one-time purchase through so once the money is paid, the game is yours to own. The Play Store listing does mention that the game requires a minimum of Android 4.4 (KitKat) to run although it is possible those with Android version-compatible phones may run into additional issues when trying to download. As at present there seems to be a limitation on which devices can download the game. For example, it is showing as compatible with the Google Pixel 2 XL but not the LG Nexus 5X in spite of both phones running Android 8.0 (Oreo). Some of the early reviews on the Play Store are also highlighting this point noting how it is still not showing as compatible with their devices. Whilst this is likely to be something that is fixed soon, it is something to keep in mind with those looking to download the game advised to check device compatibility first.
